The Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur has recommended to the Election Commissioner for initiating disciplinary action against two Engineers of Works who have been charged with not attending to their election related duties.
On the other hand, the security agencies have been alerted to arrest any of the cadres of the UG groups who have entered peace talks with the Government if they are seen moving around with arms.
According to a reliable source, the recommendation has been sent to the Election Commission for taking up action against the two Engineers of the Works Department attached to Tamenglong Division who have been pulled up by the Deputy Commissioner for not attending to their election related duties in the district where the polling to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency would be conducted on April 16 .
The recommendation has been made as the two Engineers did not respond to the repeated directives of the DC to be present at their designated stations.
As to the AE who was found drinking and later handed over to the police after being pulled up by the DC yesterday, he was released today after being produced before an Executive Magistrate.
However, a departmental inquiry has been started against him.
The source further informed that security agencies have been alerted to arrest any of the cadres of the UG groups which are holding peace talks with the Government if they are found loitering around with arms during the conduct of the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on April 16 .
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Shambhu Singh today visited Tamenglong district to oversee the election preparedness and hold meetings with the district level officials.
It is said that polling personnel of 11 polling stations of Tamenglong district located far from district headquarters along with the border with Nagaland have left for their respective polling stations today.
