High Court Bar Association (HCBA) suspends agitation

The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Manipur's agitation of staying away from Courts in pursuit of their demand for appointment of seven Judges from amongst qualified Manipuri lawyers for the Manipur High Court has been suspended temporarily.
A decision to this effect was adopted at an executive meeting of HCBA held yesterday afternoon after considering the Chief Minister's response which they said is favourable to their demands.
Talking to media persons here this afternoon, HCBA executive member Advocate Khaidem Mani conveyed the reported intimation from the Chief Minister that he and members of HCBA may jointly lobby for the demands with the Union Law and Justice Minister and other leaders concerned .
In line with the Chief Minister's intimation, a team of HCBA members led by president Senior Advocate N Kumarjit, secretary Advocate M Roshni Piba and Senior Advocate RK Nokulsana will leave for Delhi tomorrow.
Advocate General Thokchom Ibohal will also take part in the trip to Delhi.
The delegation together with the Chief Minister would call on the Union Law Minister on January 14, Khaidem Mani said.
Regretting the inconveniences faced by the public particularly litigants during the days of agitation which started from November 8 last, Mani reiterated that the HCBA's demands are legitimate.
The agitation was undertaken in the interest of public, he added.
