Imphal, July 10 2015 :
Five activists of JCILPS Women Wing including its convenor Lourembam (O) Nganbi have been pulled up by Bishnupur District Police.
The five activists were talking with media persons at Nganbi's Bishnupur Khuman Ward No 6 residence where she is recuperating after a road mishap when a police team led by two Inspectors stormed in and pulled by Nganbi together with four other activists.
Meanwhile, it is reported all the five activists were released at around 5 in the evening.
Speaking to media persons before they were arrested, Nganbi said that the 'curfew' imposed against non-locals would be extended indefinitely rather than de-escalating the ongoing protest movements.
JCILPS and Chief Minister O Ibobi agreed on three points regarding enforcement of ILPS or enactment of a similar legislation.
But the MRVTMW Bill 2015 was passed in the last Assembly session by totally ignoring the agreement.
The Bill did not touch any of the three points agreed and the JCILPS rejected the Bill from the very first day.
It is a matter of shame for the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers that the Bill submitted to the Governor has been reserved, Nganbi said.
Had the Chief Minister disclosed that the Bill had been reserved, Sapam Robinhood might not have died and the movement could not have reached such intensity.
While denouncing the excesses committed by police, she also hailed the stance taken by MLA N Biren on the issue.
Killing student and inflicting injuries to scores of others in the name of driving back protesters is an indication of complete administrative failure.
Police officers and personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood should be charged with murder, she demanded.
The demand of the JCILPS does not mean non-locals should not live in Manipur.
They are only demanding a regulatory mechanism to monitor non-locals staying in Manipur.
Detention of JCILPS leaders and activists cannot suppress the popular movement, Nganbi asserted.
The four other activists who have been arrested together with Nganbi are M Keinahanbi of Thoubal Wangmataba, AK Purnimashi of Thoubal Mayai Leirak, Chingkheinganbi of Keinou Thongkha and Akoijam Bibishon of Thoubal Mela Ground.
According to Nganbi's family, the four came to enquire Nganbi's health.
