Bishnupur, August 08 2022:
A counter economic blockade has been launched from 5.30 am today in response to All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) failing to call off their economic blockade by midnight of Sunday, subsequently leading to the arrest of four persons.
It may be noted that this move comes as a follow up to the threat of counter economic blockade made by as many as 14 different organisations yesterday at a press conference in Phougakchao Ikhai.
The four individuals were reportedly arrested after Phougakchao Ikhai Police received information that several vehicles plying along Tiddim road between Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung and headed towards Churachandpur from Imphal were stopped by counter blockade supporters and checked.
A team of Phougakchao Ikhai Police led by Additional SP (Ops) and Liaison Officer (LO) arrested four persons who were carrying out the counter blockade movement.
However, they were released after signing PR bonds and some of the goods carrying vehicles were allowed to proceed to their destination with Army personnel providing them security.
Despite this development, sources have informed that the counter economic blockade will continue till ATSUM calls off the economic blockade along NH-2 and NH-39.Reportedly, Bishnupur District Police and Churachandpur District Police are on high alert to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident.
