Protests continued in the four hill districts of Senapati, Chandel, Tamenglong and Ukhrul today against the Central government�s decision to go back on the Bangkok Agreement on extension of ceasefire with the NSCN (IM) without territorial limits.
According to reports reaching here, several thousands of people formed a human chain at Ukhrul district headquarters for two hours this afternoon to protest the Centre�s decision.
The human chain stretched from Hundung junction to Tangkhul Long grounds on the one side and from the Tangkhul Long grounds to Kharasom Lamkhai on the other.
A public meeting held at the Tangkhul Long grounds also unanimously pressed for the government of India to stand by the June 14 agreement signed in Bangkok.
In Tamenglong district, where government employees had gone on mass casual leave since yesterday, government offices remained closed.
Traffic along the Imphal-Jiribam road (national highway-53) was disrupted after suspected agitators remove some plates from a bridge at Keiphundai.
Sources said the bridge would have to be repaired before heavy traffic can resume along the road.
In Chandel district, over two thousand people took part in sit-in-protest at three places at the district headquarters.
The sit-in-protests were held near the office of the DC, Chandel, and at two places at Zaphou Bazar.
Functioning of government offices in the district was also paralysed as the employees had gone on mass casual leave.
There was no movement of vehicles on the Pallel to Chandel.
Government offices also remained paralyzed in Senapati district with employees on mass casual leave since August 6.Reports also said that a meeting of representatives of the Naga public organized by United Naga Council was held at the Poumai Church at Senapati to discuss further agitational steps in protest against the Central government�s decision to go back on the Bangkok agreement.
Details were however unavailable.
