Imphal, January 08 2009:
As per instructions of the Chief Minister, a joint control room for Police, Army and Assam Rifles has been opened at the Senapati Headquarters of 59 Mountain Brigade.
The joint control room was specifically opened to ward off unwanted and undue hindrances to the smooth vehicular traffic along NH 39 .
Since it was opened in the last week of December, the joint control room started monitoring movement of vehicles along the highway.
According to a source in Senapati District Police, the State Government has been requested to provide an exclusive telephone line for the control room.
Informing that the two police personnel are being attached to the joint control room, it said that more police personnel would be deputed to the control room.
At present, all vehicles plying along the road are being provided security escorts, said the source.
However, because of the ongoing blockade being imposed by NPO on the highway and today being off day for providing security escorts, 20 loaded trucks have been stranded at Mao Gate.
All the stranded vehicles will be brought to Imphal by security escorts tomorrow, conveyed the police source.
On the other hand, the Tamenglong stretch of the Jiribam-Imphal railway via Tupul will be re-aligned as the route drawn earlier will be affected by Tipaimukh Dam.
For a length of 10 kms from Jiribam, railway track laying work is under progress, conveyed another source.
The Jiribam-Tupul railway line scheduled for completion by 2012 is planned for extension upto Imphal by 2014 .
The railway line will have several tunnels, of which the longest would be about 8.1 kms, the source said further.
