Ukhrul, May 06 2020:
Ukhrul people came out as one to recall the May 6, 2010 incident at Mao gate in which two youths were killed in police action.
The incident occurred during the highly tensed days when police were deployed in full strength following the decision of the Government of Manipur to bar the entry of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to his natal place at Somdal village in Ukhrul district.
Sombrely observing the 10th death anniversary of the two young lads, people of Ukhrul observed the day under the banner "We remember the sacrifice of Late Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshou while defending the rights of the Naga people" .

Addressing the gathering, rights activist Hungyohung said that indiscriminate police firing led to the killing of the two brave sons of the Nagas while many innocent civilians were injured.
The May 6, 2010 incident united the Nagas from across borders, he added.
Following this, the United Naga Council (UNC) declared the two as Martyrs on May 12, 2010 to recognise their sacrifices, he said and added that this has given a fillip to the Naga movement.
Subsequently, the Naga civil society organisations christened a place at Mao as "Martyrs Park" and erected a stone in their memory.
Dr Ngahorsai said that the 2010 incident still remains fresh in the minds of all Nagas and added that the Nagas have been defending the inherent rights from the dominant communities for decades.
"Nagas should unite in order to safeguard our ancestral land," he added.
During the anniversary observation a short video clip of the Mao incident was also played.
The programme was attended by senior members Keen Luithui, Ramthar, Wungpam, Ramthing and others at Ramungo Library, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
