Imphal, February 06 2020:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has strongly condemned the plan to change the election month of Autonomous District Council Hill Area Committee Election 2020 from the month of June.
Speaking to media persons at ATSUM office today, its general secretary Seiboi Haokip appealed to the authority concerned to ensure election in June, reasoning that failure to do so will lead to serious inconveniences in the future.
He further reminded that on August 13 last year, ATSUM and the State Government also reached an agreement concerning the lack of teachers in the hill areas of the State.
Even though the State Government assured that the lack of teachers would be addressed within a period of two months, no positive action has been taken up till date, he alleged.
ATSUM and the Government also agreed on various terms and conditions concerning starting of science streams at colleges at Tadubi, Tamenglong, apart from establishing BEd centres at Ukhrul and Churachandpur.
It was also agreed that Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) will be transformed to a full fledged university and the vacant posts in Tribal Affairs and Hills would be filled up within a span of one month.
However, none have been accomplished thus far, he lamented.
The ATSUM general secretary further pointed out various lapses in family oriented schemes for the hill people and reservation issues at JNIMS in 2016.Demanding the Government to make good on its promises and assurances at the earliest, he cautioned the Government against remaining indifferent.
