Mao Community Cultural Festival starts

The three-day Mao community cultural festival organised by Mao Council has kick started with dazzling presentation of various cultural items at Tadubi ground today.
The festival which will continue till January 8 was inaugurated with Mao A/C MLA L Dikho as chief guest.
Among others UNC President L Adani and NPO President ML Markson were seated on the dais.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA L Dikho said people of the State are no inferior to people of other States.
Young generation must put in serious effort to preserve and protect the culture and tradition of Mao community.
Today, with the wide adoption of modern culture by the youths, it seems that the age-old traditions are getting degraded day by day, he added.

Mao Council President H Chakho while speaking at the function said, the festival provides an opportunity to the people of Mao community who are residing at different parts of the globe to gather at a common platform.
Although, the current generation is prosperous and educated, he added, there is serious need for revival of age-old traditions of the community which were practised by Mao forefathers.
Fire extraction competition, traditional fashion parade and inspection of traditional hut were the main highlights of the first day of the festival.
On the second day tomorrow, traditional wrestling, musical instrument, folk dance and traditional long jump competitions will be held.
On the concluding day, Tribal Development Department Deputy Director N Kaikho Kapa will be the chief guest.
Apart from distribution of prizes of various competitions held during the festival, other traditional items will be presented on the closing day.
