Pebet to be staged

Kalakshetra Manipur's most acclaimed play 'Pebet' has been invited at the International Theatre Conference, 2015 organised jointly by the International Federation for Theatre and Department of Theatre Arts, University of Hyderabad, a statement informed.
Kalakshetra Manipur troupe left Imphal for Hyderabad today to take part in the conference.
The conference is to be held from July 6� 10 at Hyderabad University on the theme 'Theatre and Democracy'.Pebet will be staged on the July 7 as one of the major performances in the conference.
Heisnam Sabitri of Kalakshetra along with its director Heisnam Kanhailal will deliver a lecture cum demonstration at the event the following day, the statement informed.
About 300 delegates from different countries of the world including 75 from India will be attending the conference.
Renowned scholars like Prabhat Patnaik, Partha Chatterjee, Elaine Aston and Anuradha Kapur will be attending the conference as key note speakers.
Pebet since its production in the early 1970s has been staged more than 70 times till date.
The play was also staged at international festivals held at Cairo and Tokyo.
