Md Sahid Khan (24) s/o Ithem of Yairipok Changamdabi, was further remanded by JMFC Imphal West to seven days police remand, till February 11, for further investigation of the alleged rape and murder of a 19 year old girl whose body was found at Irong Chesaba Salam Achouba Thumukom in the morning of January 28 .
Md Sahid Khan was produced before the Court today afternoon following the completion of 8 days police custody remand, along with another prayer to remand him for 4 more days in police custody.
The IO narrated that the body of the victim was found in the morning of January 28 at Irong Chesaba Salam Achouba Thumukom and during the inquest, it was found that both her legs and hands were tied from the back and a scarf was also wrapped around her neck.
The IO informed that during the course of investigation, the alleged boyfriend of the victim Md Sahid Khan was arrested for interrogation and he revealed that he had a love affair with the victim girl for the past 2 years.
He admitted that he made a phone call to the victim on the night of January 27, at around 10 pm, and picked her up from her residence on his car.
The IO alleged that according to the statement of the accused, the victim was raped and later strangulated with her own scarf inside the vehicle.
While in police custody, the accused showed extreme variations in his statement by sometimes admitting and sometimes denying his involvement in the crime.
However, he fully asserted that he was in a relationship with the victim, the IO explained.
Md Sahid Khan admitted that he had a love affair with victim and he used to engage in physical intimacy with the victim by making her believe that he would marry her even though he is a married man.
On the other hand, the IO submitted that during further investigation of the case, the investigating team, while going through the victim's call records, found that on the night of January 27, she had made a call to another accused identified as Sheikh Warish (24) s/o (L) Hessamudidin of Lilong Dam Makha.
The IO alleged that when interrogated, Sheikh Warish divulged that he also met the victim at around midnight of January 27 and that he was involved in the crime.
Sheikh Warish was arrested on January 30 and taken into police custody remand till February 10, the IO added.
Explaining all the clues and points of the investigation, the IO prayed for remanding the accused boyfriend Md Sahid Khan to 7 more days in police custody for thorough investigation of the case, which the Court granted.
The Court also allowed an application filed by the IO for taking blood samples for DNA profiling of the two accused.
On the other hand, a large number of locals had gathered near Cheirap Court complex after getting news that the accused would be brought there for the hearing.
However, a large number of police personnel deployed in the area prevented them from going inside the Court complex.
The angry locals also shouted slogans demanding befitting punishment for the accused.
