Imphal, February 05 2013:
Even though MLA Y Erabot, elected from Wangkhei AC, is a Congress man, he has decided to file a complaint at the Court against the State Electricity Department for denying electricity to some areas of Khurai Thoudam Leikai and Thangjam Leikai for the past three months.
Speaking to media persons at his residence today, Erabot said that a 400 KVA power transformer installed at IMC Ward No 23 got concked our on November 6 last year.
Since then, around 212 domestic consumers are being denied electricity.
Even though Electricity Department officials starting from SO to the Chief Engineer have been contacted to repair the blown out transformer, none of the officials could give any definite response and they were passing the responsibility to one another.
The officials manifested an attitude like "who cares for Erabot when the Chief Minister is holding the portfolio of Power Department", Erabot stated.
They have developed an irresponsible attitude of keeping only their official positions safe while ignoring all the duties that come with their positions, and the number of such employees is fast multiplying, the MLA observed.
Saying that the employees have been deliberately bossing around while neglecting their official duties, Erabot informed that a complaint would be filed at the Court under the Consumer Protection Act 1986 against the irresponsible officials.
The question of power bills indebted to consumers is a common issue of the whole state.
At the same time, there are many consumers who do not owe any power bills.
Erabot went on to question as to why Electricity Department was not even willing to accept his offer to help the department in collecting power bills together with local club volunteers.
Whoever is in charge of the Power Department, the matter would be raised in the State Assembly.
"Even though I'm a member of the ruling party, the situation demands me to don the role of an opposition member and debate on the matter on the floor of the House in public interest", Erabot added.
