Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC), which is an apex body comprising of AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK, and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) organised a free mega medical health camp at Konphung village, under Tamei subdivision (Tamenglong), which is located around 132 kms away from Imphal and near the border with Nagaland, today.
Speaking at the camp, which was held as a part of the three day trip of the student bodies which began from July 2, JSCC convenor Manjit Sarangthem said that the medical amp was organised with the aim of fostering and improving the bond between the hill and the valley people.
He conveyed that many heart wrenching and unfortunate incidents occur all the time in the remote areas of the State and the hill region due to patients being unable to get timely medical treatment.
These are due to poor connectivity, he said and added that the medical camp was able to provide free treatment to the people.
The medical camp was held with 56 individuals, including para medical staff and trainee nurses of RIMS, JNIMS, AYUSH and Saina Institute of Medical Sciences.
The people were given treated for dermatology problems, ENT, ophthalmology, OBS & gynaecology, paediatric, orthopaedic, cardiology (chest) and homeopathy, ayurvedic treatment as well as tests for urine glucose, urine protein, blood glucose, blood group and haemoglobin.
A total of 820 people from Konphung and the surrounding areas of Rianglong, Dikuiram and Katan, participated in the free medical camp.
Manjit continued that All Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association, CRU, Imphal, JNIMS Pharmacy Association, Directorate of Health Services and National Health Mission also extended immense assistance to the camp.
He explained that Konphung has no mobile network service and added that the road leading to Konphung is kaccha road which poses great inconveniences to the locals.
On the education front, the village is also facing many shortages.
Konphung High School has a total of 110 students and 5 teachers, including the Headmaster in charge, are working tirelessly to impart education to the said students, he added.
