Imphal, July 03 2022:
Adding more worries to the massive landslide at Tupul that has so far claimed the lives of 40 persons, with many others still missing, landslides have been reported at Sibilong, Nung Dolan and Nungkao along the Imphal-Jiribam highway, effectively cutting off communication between the two points.
After the Irang bridge snapped at Taobam village along the Imphal-Jiribam highway some time back, the only route which connected Imphal to Jiribam was through Rengpang from Bishnupur via Khoupum and then proceed to Rengpang along the Cachar road.
This route however now stands cut off following the landslides as to reach Cachar road, one needs to proceed to Nungba, Barak and Kambiron from Rengpang.

Taking to Facebook, Chief Minister N Biren urged all not to take the Imphal-Jiribam (NH-37) road for the moment.
The Chief Minister added that Government authorities have been asked to clear the landslides as soon as possible so as to enable movement of vehicles.
Apart from this, the route from Kotlien to Tupul is also in a bad shape following a series of landslides in recent times.
