Imphal, August 02 2022:
First time MLA and former IAS officer Ram Muivah representing Ukhrul Assembly Constituency today laid down a few lines for the Government to follow up for the overall development of the State.
Addressing the Assembly today, Ram Muivah stressed on the need to raise resources as depending only on the Centre would not be practical.
It should be the objective of the Government to realise a target of at least 20 percent of the income needed for the State.
The first time MLA also welcomed the idea of the Government to mull over the possibility of lifting prohibition from the State as this would automatically lead to enhanced revenue of the State exchequer.
Prohibition has never stopped anyone from drinking, said the MLA and cited the example of bootlegging in the US during the days of Al Capone.
The need of the hour is to take all stakeholders along with the idea of lifting prohibition, added the MLA.
"Attract the rich and famous for private investment for whom wine & beer is part of normal meal.
There is a saying, a civilization of a people is measured according to the kind of wine we drink, as to how we treat the poor and the less fortunate, differently challenged people, orphan & widows," added the MLA.
Other ideas shared by the MLA to hike the income potential of the State included MNC Pharmaceuticals, Hydro projects, Brewery, Tourism and cited the example of Sikkim.
