Imphal, August 02 2009:
Accusing Chief Minister O Ibobi of turning the State police commandos into killing machines, the proscribed UNLF today asserted that earlier it was the security personnel from outside, who killed innocent people, but ever since Ibobi became the Chief Minister, the police commandos have unleashed a reign of terror.
All this is done to please his political bosses at Delhi, claimed the outfit.
In a statement issued to the press today, the Central Committee of the outfit said that now the truth stands exposed for all to see as the July 23 incident clearly shows the growing trend of fake encounters.
Just to catch a man, the police commandos opened indiscriminate firing at the crowded BT Road killing a young pregnant woman, said UNLF and added that to cover this up, they killed Ch Sanjit and cooked up the story that he was killed in an encounter and claimed that a gun was recovered from him.
Sanjit was killed in custody in a pharmacy, claimed the outfit.
The statement recalled that instead of demanding the truth, the MLAs fell in line with the version of the Government and even spoke out against the armed struggle.
The statement of the Chief Minister that there was no alternative but to kill is akin to challenging the people, it asserted.
The head of the killing machinery is Chief Minister O Ibobi, accused UNLF and added that he is today the most criminal minded amongst all the Chief Ministers as well as the most unfit man.
Other than being a sponsor of terror, Ibobi is also neck deep in corruption, it alleged and added that it is not without reason that he has earned the nickname, '15 percent Ibobi,' said UNLF.
All those killed by the CM's men were either innocent civilians or retired militants, said the statement and added that this is public knowledge.
If the militants also follow the methods of the Chief Minister, his political stooges including the Ministers and MLAs and police commandos and start targeting them at random, Manipur will be turned into a killing field, said the outfit.
Though Chief Minister O Ibobi and his Ministers and MLAs may surround themselves with security personnel and the police commandos may not move out of their barracks unarmed, it would not be a problem for the UNLF to strike out at them, if it desires, said the outfit and added that UNLF too has its tolerance limit.
Today, Tehelka has produced photographic evidences of the cold blooded murder of Sanjit and no amount of efforts to cover it up with lies, will stand, asserted the statement.
The latest case of fake encounter killing was committed by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and 28 Assam Rifles on July 31 at Thiyam village, claimed the outfit.
Thokchom Nanao alias Herojit of Chairen Awang Leikai but shifted to Pangaltabi Awang Leikai he was in fact Thokchom Lalloi alias Amitkumar, a pte of the UNLF but who had stayed away from the outfit, it said .
He joined the outfit in 2004, but left in 2007 due to illness.
After this he did not have much contact with the UNLF, it asserted.
Claiming that Nanao was taken away by the combined team by disguising themselves as UNLF/MPA cadres, the outfit said that this very act was one of cowardice.
Today, the people have been terrorised into quiet submission and even journalists are hesitant to publish the true stories, said the outfit.
The recent story of the picture sequence appearing in the Tehelka is the proof.
