RIMS protests bomb blast

RIMS teaching and non-teaching staff and students staged a sit-in-protest against last night's bomb blast that occurred between the Medical Super-intendent's quarters and girls' hostel at RIMS campus today.
OPD and casualty emergency services were suspen- ded for the day as top administrative officers including the Director, HODs, doctors, nurses and other teaching and non-teaching staff took part in the protest.
They put up placards that read 'RIMS strongly protest bomb blasts at educational and hospital campus', 'Save us to save life', 'We want peace', Hospital is not a battlefield' and 'Is RIMS safe?' .
RIMS Director Prof S Rita said that every misunderstanding can be resolved through talks.
As many students from other States are also studying in RIMS, negative consequences might have been witnessed in the institute if any student from other States was injured in the blast.

The Centre could also enquire the institute if there were any injuries or casualties, she said.
Saying that OPD and casualty services were suspended for the day as doctors, nurses and other non-teaching had joined the stir, Prof Rita said that such attacks would ultimately give inconvenience to the public.
RIMS Nurses Association president H Tamphasana also urged the concerned not to repeat such attacks at RIMS campus in future.
RIMS Students' Union president Athiko urged the concerned not to carry out such attacks at RIMS campus where treatment for many people including many from other States are going on.
He also said that many students from other States are also studying in the institute.
RIMS Students' Union PG Association advisor Dr Akoijam Brogen said that yesterday's incident has created fear among students and staff of the medical institute.
Saying that many students from other States are also studying in RIMS, Dr Brogen said that security has become a concern at RIMS campus now.
It would be a loss to RIMS and the State if these students leave the medical institute due to security problem, he said.
Urging the concerned not to repeat such attacks at RIMS campus in future, Dr Brogen urged them to resolve all the misunderstandings if any through peaceful talks with RIMS authority.
Contending that normal functioning of RIMS largely depends on the service of junior doctors, Dr Brogen said that smooth running of the hospital may be affected if these doctors lauch a stir against such attacks.
He also said that these doctors would decide their stand against such unwanted incidents in a meeting to be held later in the day.
Meanwhile, volunteers of Laijingninthou Meira Lup, Thangmeiband staged a similar protest at RIMS gate today.
Lup secretary Sinam (O) Indira urged the concerned not to repeat such attacks at RIMS campus in future.
She also sought a clarification on yesterday's incident from the group concerned.
