Imphal, August 01 2016:
Dr L Subash of Thoubal district hospital has refuted the allegation of negligence on his part in the death of a newly born infant in the hospital on July 30 .
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Dr Subash said that Soibam (O) Thoibicha (18) of Tekcham Maning Leikai gave birth to her first child through normal delivery at around 4.20 pm.
Refuting the claim of Thoibicha's mother-in-law, Dr Subash said that the baby boy cried at the time of his birth and he was completely normal.
After keeping the infant in the warmer for some time, he was handed over to Thoibicha's family, Dr Subash said and added that there was no visible complicacy at that time.
Saying that Thoibicha's mother-in-law even gave blessings to the staff of the hospital when she received her grandson, Dr Subash said that the hospital staff advised the patient's party to breast feed the infant after some time.
Dr Subash said that he returned home after asking the doctors on emergency duty to do the needful.
However, to his surprise, he received a call from the hospital about the infant's death at around 6.05 pm, he said.
Now, post mortem report can only tell how and why the infant died two hours after his birth, Dr Subash said.
