Mirabai opens Manipur's gold medal account
State bags 6 medals on Day 2

Olympic silver medallist and Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu today opened Manipur's gold medal account in Gandhinagar at the 36th National Games being hosted by Gujarat.
Lifter Mirabai won the gold medal in the 49 kg category with a total lift of 191 kg- 84 in snatch and 107 kg in clean and jerk.
Manipur's Khumukcham Sanjita also made a fine comeback to the game winning the silver medal in the same category with a 82 kg lift in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk for the total 187 kg finish.
Later, Phandom Ranibala added another gold medal to Manipur's tally by clinching the 55 kg category title with a 188 kg finish.
She managed best 84 kg in snatch and 104 kg in clean and jerk.

The day also saw Manipur securing three bronze medals in fencing and wrestling events.
It was Laishram Abe who won a bronze medal in fencing's individual sabre event as Punjab's Jagmeet Kaur and Tamil Nadu's Quebha Beni sealed gold and silver medals respectively.
Later, State's sabre team of Th Daina, L Abi, Th Sana and H Anapriya settled for another bronze medal after losing to Tamil Nadu in the semi-final.
Wrestler Moirangthem Taibanganba, in the meantime, settled for the same medal in the men's 67 kg Greco Roman style.
In athletics, H Bhumeshwori finished 12th in the 1500 m race with a time of 4 minutes 45.67 seconds while Ashif Khan finished 9th in 20 km race walk with a time of 1 hour 36 minutes and 19 seconds (1:36:19) .
Women's 2000 m double scull pair of Haobijam Tendenthoi and Thangjam Priya on the other hand made it to the final stage today as gymnast Sanasam Ruben Meitei qualified for the vaulting table final.
With these, Manipur have gathered as many as 6 medals (2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze) on Day 2 .
