Jaded JNIMS work infuriates CM

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh lashed out at contractors and officials concerned for what he termed as slackness in executing infrastructure development works of the Government hospital.
Accompanied by his ministerial colleagues the CM paid a surprise visit to the Porompat complex of the hospital this morning and on finding only a handful of labourers at various construction sites instructed officials concerned to reprimand the contractors engaged in the infrastructure development works.
With the visit informed to be ahead of the proposed arrival of a Medical Council of India (MCI) team to assess progress of the infrastructure development work, the CM categorically stated that such unjustifiable delay in implementing that assigned tasks will not be tolerated.
Speaking to the hospital staff at the JNIMS conference hall after personally inspecting the work sites, he conveyed that the MCI team would either arrive in September or January next.
Strongly pitching for completing majority of infrastructure development work within December month, Ibobi said there should be no further de-lay in ensuring that the ground level as well as the second floor section of the building are completed within the specified period.
Expressing dissatisfaction on the lack of progress in the construction of the JNIMS administrative block and the proposed building for opening a branch of the State Bank of India, he suggested that the contractors as well as bank authorities convey if they are no more committed to their respective assignments/obligations.
Announcing a Government policy to depute JNIMS teams of specialist doctors and other support staff to remote corners of the State atleast once a month so as to extend health care services to those citizens who have been enduring various hardships to reach medical centres, the CM also appealed to all the medical personnel to work with sacrificial spirit.
He also assured the JNIMS staff members that all possible measures would be initiated to make their task more convenient.
Earlier, the CM inspected construction sites of the ladies' hostel building, administrative block, 150-bedded ward and the proposed bank building.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) Suhel Akhtar, Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah and officials of Works Department also accompanied the CM .
