Imphal, January 31 2010:
The Senapati District Students' Association has decided to curtail the highway bandh period from the proposed five days to only two with immediate effect.
An SDSA statement issued tonight cited inconveniences caused to the general public for its executive committee meeting held today to decide on suspending the bandh from midnight
of February 1 .
"But the 'indefinite economic bandh' remains unchanged for which it will soon follow the said two days bandh", the statement maintained.
While taking note of hectic preparation and move of the State Government to resume works along the National Highway 39 in the past two days, the SDSA posed as to why the Government lacked commitment and initiated the work only after agitations are launched.
Expressing that attitude of the Government is a testimony of the people of Senapati district being accorded step-motherly treatment, the student body further asserted that unless the task of maintaining and repairing of NH-39 is entrusted to the BRO/BRTF the economic blockade will remain in force.
The SDSA appeals the general public to continue its support and cooperate in the ongoing agitation as it in the general welfare of the State, it added.
