State level Gaidinliu birthday from next year: CM

While disagreeing with the current practice of a particular com munity-based organisation conducting the observance of birth anniversary Rani Gaidinliu, chief minister N Biren has announced that the birth anniversary of the revered freedom fighter will be celebrated at the state level from next year on.
The 108th birth anniversary of Rani Guidinliu was organised by Kabui Mother's Association (KAMA) under the aegis of Ranima Birth Anniversary Organising Committee at Rani Gaidinliu Park, Mantripukhri on Thursday.
Governor La Ganesan and chief minister N Biren led the people in offering floral tributes to the statue of Gaidinliu.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Biren emphasised that the birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu should not be celebrated by a single union but by the whole Zeliangrong community.
It is very unfortunate that the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter was being celebrated only by KAMA earlier.
However, from next year onward, the event will be celebrated by the government as a state
function.
Informing that it is a historical fact that Rani Gaidinliu played an important role in fighting against the British for independent Manipur, the chief minister mentioned that in recognition of her role in the freedom movement.
Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking up a number of steps to propagate her name and fame.
He further said that Rs 15 crore has already been sanctioned for the development of a memorial in her birth place Nungkao in Tamenglong district.
But, unfortunately due to some issues, the development works remain stalled, he lamented.
On the development of Rani Gaidinliu Park, the Chief Minister said that creative changes can also be made to beautify the Park.
He further stated that we all should follow the footsteps of leaders like Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu as they fought not only for independence but also for our dignity.
Their dedications are worth remembering and we all should cooperate with each other for instilling the sense of patriotism among the younger generation.
We should never follow the distorted historical pieces as this will weaken the social fabric, he cautioned, while appealing to the people to cooperate with the government in all aspects of development for a better Manipur.
Former union minister of state Professor Meijinlung Kamson spoke on Rani Gaidinliu's early life and her struggle for independence.
Ministers, MLAs, representatives of civil society organisations, women leaders from across the state attended the tribute event.
Earlier, KAMA submitted a memorandum urging to develop the Rani Gaidinliu Park.
Colourful cultural dances were also staged as a part of the commemorative event.
observance was also organised by Kabui Kabui Manipur at Kabui Customary Council Sawombung Kabui Khunja people paid floral tributes to the photo of Rani Gaidinliu.
Members of All Manipur Kabui Women's Organisation and All Manipur Kabui Students' Association took part in the programme.
