Legal awareness, interaction programmes organised

As a part of the Legal Awareness & Outreach Campaign launched by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA); District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West in collaboration with Manipur State LegalSer-vices Authority (MASLSA) conducted a legal awareness campaign by using Multi Utility Mobile Vans on Saturday.
According to a statement released by MASLSA deputy member secretary Sorokhaibam Sadananda, the programme was flagged off from High Court of Manipur Judges' Guest House by Justice and MASLSA executive chairman Kh Nobin in the presence of District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West cum DLSA Imphal West chairman A Guneshwar Sharma; District & Sessions Judge, cum DLSA Imphal East chairperson RK Memcha Devi; MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum; CJM cum DLSA Imphal East secretary N Lanleima; and CJM cum DLSA Imphal West Y Somorjit Singh on Friday.
On Saturday, the programme for Imphal West was led by DLSA Imphal West Front office P Tolen, ajong with remand lawyer Rk Imoba, paralegals Y Kal-mark, Moirangthem Chumba Devi and PLVs of Imphal West DLSA.
The awareness campaign, conducted with use of Multi Utility Mobile Van, covered various villages of Imphal West District including Patsoi Part-III Legal Aid Clinic and Yurembam Bazar, Lamsang Bazar, Mayang Langjing, Phumlou, Senjam Khunou, Loitang Khunou, Khurkhul Higher Secondary School and public places of Khurkhul.
Apart from explaining about the legal provisions, queries of the public were answered and related pamphlets distributed during the programme.
During this campaign, theme songs of NALSA & MASLSA were played and documentaries were shown to the public at various stoppages.
Pamphlets, posters containing information about contact details of Legal Services Institutions & availability of free legal services were distributed to the public.
Interactions were also held with around 605 people and awareness on availability of free, legal aid and services provided.
Meanwhile, as a part of Pan India Awareness Campaign, an interaction programme with the children at the observation homes of Samaram and Langthabal was organised by MASLSA on Saturday.
MASLSA executive chairman Kh Nobin and Justice A Bimol interacted with the children and assessed the situation in both the homes.
Commissioner (Law), High Court of Manipur registrar (Judicial), Thoubal District and Sessions Judge, MASLSA deputy member secretary and JMFC Thoubal were also present along with officials of Social- Welfare Department, MASLSA, Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB) members and others.
During the programme, both Justices emphasised that proper infrastructure should be provided to the homes as well as the JJBs.
They instructed the government officials present to provide all such facilities at the earliest possible time, stressing that without it, the implementation of the special laws for children will be severely restricted.
Furthermore, for the foreigners lodged in these homes, a special legal aid and assistance drive should be initiated by MASLSA, under the guidance of the Justices, who are also chairperson and member of Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Manipur, the releases added.
