Imphal, November 14 2021:
People have been unable to live peacefully with degrading governance under the rule of BJP governments both at the Centre and in the state, said All India Mahila Congress Committee secretary Lhimkim Haokip.
Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress led by its president Mutum Sarma Devi extended assistance in the form of food items to Geon Orphanage in Saikul on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Sunday.
Office bearers of Mahila Congress, president and office bearers of Saikul Kendra Mahila Congress were part of the team.
Interacting with media at the occasion, Lhimkim said that development in power sector, water, road connectivity, availability of essential commodities at affordable rate and empowering the public by making favourable conditions for income generation are crucial for public welfare.
However, the BJP government has failed to deliver these key solutions, especially in Manipur, she said.
Lhimkim, who is gearing up to contest the 2022 state assembly election from Saikul assembly constituency, further said that price of petrol and diesel crossed Rs 100 for the first time in the history of India under the BJP government.
BJP had charged the UPA government of looting the public for raising petrol and diesel price by a few paise but the same BJP is now making history by raising fuel price sky-high.
As a result, the common people are facing severe hardships as it affects prices of almost all commodities, she said.
Before the 2017 election, BJP promised to increase the per capita income by taking up initiatives for promoting income generation avenues.
However, the actual situation is far from what it promised.
She also called the Manipur Startup scheme as a programme for those close to the ministers and MLAs and their workers.
Selection in the interior hill areas is rare under the scheme.
Despite its tall claim, the Go to Hills campaign brings no benefit to the hill people, she said while questioning if any steps have been taken up under GTH to increase the income of hill people.
