Imphal, June 02 2022:
Demand Committee on Creation of Autonomous District Councils (DCCADCs) has urged the state government for creation of separate ADCs for the newly formed hill districts of Kamjong, Pherzawl, Noney and Tengnoupal based on the cabinet decision taken on March 27, 2021 and subsequent ruling of High Court of Manipur dated August 12, 2021 in favour of constituting separate ADCs for the new districts.
In a release, DCCADC convener Simon Kamei and general secretary Poudin Riamei demanded authority concerned to form the councils with 26 members each, out of which 24 should be elected and two nominees.
Authority concerned should also work out delimitation process of the district council constituencies (DCCs) for all the affected district councils and newly created hill districts at the earliest.
The government should conduct the election to 10 ADCs as early as possible in the interest of tribal populace in the hill districts, it emphasised.
Reposing their trust on chief minister N Biren, the DCCADC appealed to authority concerned to include minor tribes whose population is more or less than 5000 in the democratic process, so that they will be able to participate in local self-government as elected ADC members in the coming ADCs election.
In case of government failing to fulfil the demands, the Committee will continue its struggle until all the demands are met, it asserted and further requested the CM to initiate all necessary processes for early creation of separate ADCs for the newly created four hill districts.
