Imphal, September 30 2022:
Koubru Laikha Lai Seva Committee has appealed to the state government for taking up measures to protect the sacred religious sites of Koubru Laikha and Koubru hills, and to develop modern amenities for ameliorating the hardships faced by the pilgrims, so as to provide them a better experience.
Executive members of the committee, Amaiba, local Meira Paibi and youth from different parts of the state organised a cleanliness programme at Koubru Laikha on Friday.
Interacting with the media, Committee secretary Khwairakpam Rakesh said that Koubru is an old and revered site for the Meeteis and the committee was formed with the objective to protect the sacred sites and assist the pilgrims.
After years of pursuance, the committee was able to get a 0.89 acre of land plot.
However, leaving the land plot un-demarcated could create issues in the future, he said while urging the government to construct a compound fence.
Koubru Laikha River is a holy river for all Meeteis, who worship Lainingthou Sanamahi in their homes.
Koubru Laikha or Mount Koubru is often the destination of choice for Sanamahi followers to conduct the last rites of their near and dear ones, while Sekmai people are still following the same, he said.
On the other hand, pilgrims visiting the sacred sites of Koubru have been facing various hardships due to bad roads and lack of basic amenities.
At the same time, the Koubru Laikha complex still lacks quarters for Amaiba, kitchen and community hall, he pointed out, while drawing attention of the government for taking up necessary steps to address these issues.
