Time to address dependency syndrome: Punil Kumar

A one-day public convention on the topic of 'Congregation of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Manipur' was organised by Federation of Civil Society Organisations, Manipur at City Convention Center here on Monday.
Delivering the keynote address, Federation of CSOs, Manipur secretary general A Punil Kumar said that the convention was organised after a Retailed discussion on the ideal's of both hill and valley-based organisations.
The message of the Convention to the people of the state is that development is important and as such, we should focus on developing the economy of the state, rather than wait with bated breath for the government of India to release plan and non-plan funds.
We should stop being overly dependent on others for our own survival, he asserted.
The general secretary urged for keeping aside religious differences, individual ideologies and prejudices, and political background, and instead working together for improving the economy of the state.
Appreciating the attending CSOs, Punil informed that prior to the convention, the hill areas were visited for value addition of the local resources, adding that a platform for the same has also been prepared.
In addition, members at Gram Panchayat, Nagar Panchayat and Municipal levels have been selected from six valley districts of the state to see to the formation of a farmers' club or organisation.
For municipal areas, MSMEs are being set up, while for the hill districts, help from the ADCs, village chiefs and church committees have been sought for the formation of a farmers' club in each village.
An industrial sector is also being set up for those interested, he added.
Punil then remarked that the people should have the awareness of the responsibility of being a citizen, apart from demanding their rights from the government.
He further urged all concerned to pay their income tax in time and help increase the state's economy to around Rs 50,000 crore.
