Sit-in demands diversion of passenger autos

Responding to the call of Young Physique Union (YPU) and Nagamapal RIMS Road Kanglei Chanura Nupi Apunba Chaokhat Khongthang Lup, localresidents of Lalam bung and Nagamapal staged a sit-in at Khwai Lalambung Makhong demanding the government to arrange an alternate route for the passenger diesel auto rickshaws operating along the RIMS Road.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, YPU assistant secretary Labi Ningthoujam said that they are raising the demand to reduce noise and air pollution, traffic jam and road mishaps.
While pointing out that RIMS Road is an important road as several hospitals are located along the route, he contended that passenger autorickshaws are causing severe inconvenience apart from creating noise and air pollution in the area.
Students are also facing difficulties in their study due to all these noises while double parking of vehicles on the road side is also another problem that the local residents has been enduring daily, the secretary said.
He then drew attention of the chief minister and the transport department for arranging an alternate route and restricting parking in the Nagamapal road turning of the route.
YPU had also submitted a written application to Manipur Pollution Control Board with request for replacing the diesel autorickshaws with e-autorickshaw but no initiatives have been taken up so far, Labi lamented.
He further informed that YPU along with other local clubs and traffic police will launch a drive against double row parking.
