CM, MAHUD minister extend Irawat Day greetings

Chief minister N Biren has conveyed best wishes to the people of Manipur on the birth anniversary of Jananeta Irawat.
In his message, Biren said that Hijam Irawat was a multi-faceted and versatile humanistic revolutionary who stood against foreign and autocratic rule during the country's freedom movement.
He was a freedom fighter, politician and social activist par excellence, versatile personality, gifted poet and accomplished scholar.
His contribution in the field of literature and sports and social upliftment of the downtrodden continue to impact our lives to this day.
For all his pioneering works for the betterment of the society, Irawat was known as Jana Neta and also as the first modern architect of Manipur, he continued, while urging the people to leave behind selfish thoughts and follow his ideals and translate his philosophies into action by celebrating the 126th birth anniversary of Irawat.
Similarly, Rural Development & PR/MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand paid tribute to Jana Neta Hijam Irawat and to Manipuri society on the occasion of Irawat Day.
His sacrifice of a comfortable life and courage to raise voice against social evils for emancipation of common people during those days will always be remembered and cherished by generation by generation in Manipur, the minister said He also appealed to all to follow Irawat's footsteps for ushering in a society which is always free from subjugation, oppression and exploitation.
