LDA meet reviews wetland conservation projects

Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman M Asnikumar chaired a review meeting of LDA along with technical, scientific and administrative officials at its head office located at the Secure Building, North AOC, here, bn Friday.
At the outset, the LDA chairman thanked all the officials and staff for the improvement works of Loktak Lake Front and the jetty at Sendra, Loktak Lake, in a short time for the recently concluded G20 event in the state.
He reviewed all the ongoing works of LDA, which include removal of phumdis, weeds, and grasses from the lake, research & monitoring, catchment conservation, community engagement among others, and instructed officials to carry on the work smoothly and efficiently.
He sought a detailed Status report on all the machineries and vehicles within a week for proper allocation and utilisation and also directed to expedite scientific and community engagement works.
Asnikumar further instructed officials to submit a detailed report on all the existing Inland Transport Terminal Buildings of Loktak Lake located at different locations along the lake's boundary.
The meeting also discussed various measures for the conservation of other associated wetlands like Pumlen, Khoidum, Ekop, Kharung, and Loushi pat, which are parts of Loktak wetland complex.
A decision to assess the present condition of associated wetlands was also taken and the assessment team was directed to submit a detailed report in consultation with local elected representatives (MLAs) and local communities, NGOs working for conservation causes in a planned but expeditious manner.
The LDA chairman also highlighted the vision of CM N Biren to revive Loktak's (and its associated wetlands) biodiversity and extensive measures for the revival, complete rejuvenation and conservation of Loktak lake and its associated wetlands.
The meeting also deliberated on the upcoming Regional Workshop on Wise Use Policy of Wetlands to be organised under the aegis of MoEFCC, next month.
LDA will host the regional workshop at Loktak Lake.
Moreover, LDA also discussed a proposal for organising a national seminar on ecology at Loktak Lake in April in connection with G20 and C20 (a G20 platform for Civil Society Organisations) .
