Imphal, September 24 2022:
FXB India Suraksha under the aegis of Ecpat Luxemburg inaugurated a two-day "Training Programme for Vigilance Group on child safety and Human Trafficking" at Heirok Part-Ill on Saturday.
The inaugural function was attended by Manipur High Court advocate and Child Welfare Committee, Imphal West former chairperson Thiyam Rajkishore Singh; ICDS Project, Thoubal supervisor S Bhanumati Devi; CHC, Heirok ASHA facilitator Moirangthem Usharani Devi; and FXB India Suraksha programme officer Khoinaijam Sunil Meitei as presidium members.
In all 42 people selected from 21 clubs of Heirok Part-I, II and III are taking part in the training programme.
The main objective of the training programme is to strengthen the 21 clubs to act as a vigilance group and take the help of the law in preventing any unwanted incidents from happening in the areas covered by the three GPs (Heirok Part-I, II and III) .
Speaking on the occasion, All Heirok United Clubs co-convenor Laishram Sintha stressed that it is the responsibility of all the villagers to protect and ensure the safety of women and children in the area.
However, we cannot take the law into our hands.
Thus, the four topics of Child Marriage, Child Sexual Abuse, provisions of Juvenile Justice Act and Human trafficking, which will be deliberated upon during the programme are of utmost importance for the clubs, she said, adding that it will help in increasing legal knowledge and lower the crime rate in the village.
ICDS Project, Thoubal supervisor S Bhanumati Devi urged all concerned to help ensure the safe upbringing of children, while remarking that Anganwadi workers and helpers could help protect the children in their care as well as lower crime rates, by taking in more knowledge in addition to their duties.
FXB India Suraksha programme officer Khoinaijam Sunil Meitei said that the topics to be taught in the training programme will benefit everyone.
However, the issue is that if the knowledge gained during the training or awareness is not applied in real life, it will not help curb the crime rates.
He then stressed the need for stopping the habit of ignoring issues until it happens to ourselves, while encouraging the 21 clubs to work together as a vigilance group and reduce the occurrence of crimes.
During the technical session, Thiyam Rajkishore Singh spoke on the topic of 'Child Marriage, Juvenile Justice Act', and Khoinaijam Sunil Meitei on 'Child Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking' .
