Imphal, July 23 2022:
Police constables of the State Police Department who are in service for around 35 long years and are eligible to be promoted to the rank of an Assistant SubInspector (ASI) have decried alleged delay of promotion and violation of their rights.
The police constables have reacted strongly against the indifference attitude of the relevant authorities thereby suppressing their due rights of promotion and had called on the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to address their issue at the earliest.
The said police constables have joined the Manipur Police around 1986-87 and have been delivering their duties selflessly day and night to maintain law and order and to protect the people.
However when it comes to acknowledge their contributions and uplift them, the authorities concerned have turned a deaf ear without taking up any concrete measures to provide them their due rights.
It is worth mentioning that owing to the arduous efforts of the police constables who have been fighting for their rights to promotion, they were promoted to the rank of Head constable in November 2014 as per the directives of the then Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Apart from the long service record, many of the police constables are educationally qualified and fulfill the criteria to hold the rank of ASI or even Sub-Inspectors but the Government has failed to take cognizance of the situation, the constables lamented.
At this juncture, many constables who have served the people have retired with out getting the chance to enjoying their due entitlements and many are in line to retire in the coming days which is really unfortunate.
Though there are orders in place to provide departmental promotion to these constables under the aegis of the incumbent Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the required process have not been taken up and the matter is being delayed violating their rights.
The constables also alleged the promotion of other high ranks in the Department have been ramped up and they are given promotions within a short period of time.
In view of the above concerns and considering their plights, the constables urged the authorities concerned and the State Government to fulfill their demand and allow them to retire with honour after their service.
