Moreh, May 22 2022:
Properties estimated at nearly Rs 20 lakh have been completely destroyed when a house at H Monjang village near Moreh town caught fire on Sunday at about 10 am.
The gutted house belonged to Linglam Haokip (widow) of Monjang village.
According to Linglam, she stayed at the house alone after her husband died and the fire that started from an electric short circuit destroyed household properties, including one Kenbo bike, worth nearly Rs 20 lakh.
She then urged government to compensate her for the losses.
Meanwhile, former ADC Chandel chairman Lukho-sei Zou and ex-member of ADC Chandel Chineiwa Haokip called on Linglam Haokip and assured of providing necessary assistance.
On the other hand, H Mongjang village chief Lelet Haokip told media persons that Linglam's house could have been saved had the fire service team from Moreh reached the village on time.
The fire service team reached the village very late due to bad condition of the road connecting TM Zoumunnom village of NH 102 road and H Mongjang village, he said, adding that construction of TM Zoumunnom village H Mongjang village road spanning only 8km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) remains incomplete even after three years.
He then drew immediate attention of the government to complete construction of the road.
