Imphal, November 07 2022:
The 2nd national conference of Mid-Day Meal Workers' Federation of India held in Hyderabad on November 4 and 5 resolved to launch protect action to get their rights.
As per resolution arrived at the national conference, there are around 26 lakh Mid-Day meal (MDM) workers in the country and they get honorarium of only Rs 1,000 per month that too only for 10 months in a year.
The conference decided that a nationwide protest action will be launched on December 11 to press the government for chalking up special measure to increase wages and pension of Mid-Day meal workers.
The decision to launch protest action was taken to stop BJP government's attempt to abolish Mid-Day Meal scheme by re-naming it as PM Poshan and slashing budgetary provision apart from bringing in corporates and NGOs to the scheme.
The conference further resolved that all the delegates must launch independent and joint movement for Mid-Day meal workers when they return home and collectively fight against BJP government' anti-people and anti-farmer policies.
State delegate Arambam Thoi Chanu was among 10 presidium members of the conference in the inaugural session wherein federation's general secretary Jaybhagwan presented a report on the activities of the federation from the year 2015 till date.
Another state delegate Kangjam Ibemcha Devi took part in discussion of the report and highlighted suffering of MidDay meal workers of Manipur.
A total of seven delegates from Manipur took part in the conference attended by 260 delegates from different states of the country.
The conference later constituted a 51-member working committee which include All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union secretary Arambam Thoi Chanu and joint secretary Manglemba.
The conference also appointed West Bengal's Krishna Roy Chatterjee as president, Karnataka's Malini Mehta as general secretary and Himachal Pradesh's Himi Devi as treasurer.
