NNN honours widows in its annual gathering

Annual gathering of Nupina Nupigidamak (NNN) was held on Saturday at the conference hall of NRC located near MU Gate, Canchipur.
NNN, an organisation formed by social activists and women working in different professions, honoured the widows with presentation of handloom items during the annual gathering while widows narrated the challenges they encountered in raising their children at the event.
According to NNN key functionary Babyli (Nujaleima), the organisation was formed with the main objective to support single women particularly the widows and has been extending financial and material assistance to widows skilled in making handloom items.
The organisation will shoulder the responsibility of marketing the handloom products of the widows and this will help in preventing widows from going to the wrong path, she said.
Senior journalist Sonia Sorensangbam of the Poknapham daily, who also attended the event, said that the role of women in leading the society to the right path is enormous.
She also noted that many women of Manipur have been raising their children by selling veg etables at markets and on roadsides thereby playing an important role in improving economy of the state.
Apart from improving economy, women of Manipur are now taking important role in social and political fields, she added.
The annual gathering of NNN was also attended by North East's first innovative awardee Kh Jina, state teacher awardee and group's senior member Angomjabam Keilayani and senior members of the group Shanta Potsangbam, RK Rita Devi and Arun Dayenti.
