Govt collects huge tax but delivers little: Kennedy

The present BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the state collected huge tax from the people but delivered very little benefits, charged Kshetrimayum Kennedy, who is preparing to contest the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election as a candidate of INC in Kakching AC.
Addressing the gathering at the launch ceremony of Public Awareness Campaign of INC called Jan Jagran Abhiyan in respect of Kakching assembly constituency on Friday, Kennedy pointed out that prices of petroleum products and essential commodities have sky-rocketed throughout the country as BJP government at the Centre collected huge tax from the people.
The present government imposed heavy taxes on the public but delivered very little benefit, he said during the launch ceremony of the campaign cum protest held at his Kakching Makha Leikai residence.
According to Kennedy, Indian National Congress has launched Jan Jagran Abhiyan campaign with the main objective to create awareness among the people about anti-people policies and programmes being initiated by the Central and state governments respectively led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister N Biren Singh.
People of the country have suffered much as prices of seasonal crops have increased by 40-50 percent since around a year back as also prices of diesel and petrol and medicines.
Tax collected by the government from the people for different goods is highest this year but people get least benefit and this saddened INC, he said, adding that Jan Jagran Abhiyan campaign has been launched to awaken the government.
Participants held placards inscribed with slogans against price hike during the campaign apart from shouting different slogans.
