Imphal, December 23 2021:
Rupmahal Theatre celebrated its 79th foundation anniversary at its hall here on Thursday.
As part of the celebration, 14th Hawaibam Nilamani Ningshing Mana and 30th Meitram Bira Award were presented to Sorensangbam Lakhikant Singh and Pangabam Somorendro Singh respectively.
Both the awards carry Rs 10,000 cash, shawl and citation each.
Coinciding with the anniversary celebration, 21st Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival-2021 will also commence from Friday and continue till January 4 next year.
The anniversary celebration was attended by Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam as chief guest and Rupmahal Theatre chairman K Heramani as president.
Speaking at the event, Yumnam Radheshyam pointed out that presentation of Hawaibam Nilamani Ningshing Mana and Meitram Bira Award by Rupmahal Theatre to preserve the spirit of theatre is a good step and today's generation should not forget the path shown by late elders in the field of theatre.
He also said that today's theatre artistes should not forget the sacrifices made by pioneer theatre personalities.
Saddened by untimely commencement of Thursday's celebration function, MLA Yumnam Radheshyam said that Rupmahal Theatre was known for being punctual in the conduct of plays/programmes and this habit should be maintained.
Since the past three/four years, there had been numerous complaints about government's indifferent attitude towards artist/artistes.
However, the present government has started taking up welfare measures for artist/artistes and even launched 'CM Artistsingee Tengbang'.
Meanwhile, organisers informed that the 21st Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival-2021 will begin with 'Shatlamee Shingel Ama' of Society Theatre, Sega Road on Friday.
