Senapati, January 21 2022:
Sheemai (Maiba) village on Thursday observed 'Thanksgiving Day' to commemorate completion of the temporary road connectivity to the village and declaration of cent per cent household tap water connection under Jal Jivan Mission in the village.
With no major developmental project relating to improvement of road connectivity to the village for the past many years, the villagers decided to start construction of the road with donations from well-wishers of the village as well as outside the village.
As such, the villagers celebrated the 'Thanksgiving day'.
Speaking at the occasion, Sheemai (Maiba) village chairman LD David lauded the village road development committee that has brought motorable road to the village which is the long-cherished dream of the villagers.
Later, the village chairman declared that the villagers have received 100 per cent tap water connection in every household for which, he expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for introducing the Jal Jeevan Mission in the country.
Superintending Engineer (Retd) PHED cum Maiba Road Development Committee convenor LS Thole informed that Sheemai (Maiba) village under Paomata block in Senapati district is a recognised revenue village and has a population of 3041 people with 537 households as per the 2011 census report.
The village was first declared as ODF (Open Defecation Free) village in January, 2018 under Swachch Bharat Mission (Gramin) and also achieved 100 per cent functional tap water household connection by December, 2021 under Jal Jeevan Mission.
However, the village was bereft of proper connectivity with the rest of the adjoining villages and road connectivity facility taken up under PMGSY did not reach the village till date.
As a result, all economic activities of the village remained cut off consequently leading to regression of the local economy, he contended.
Having experienced the misery in travelling over the dilapidated road condition for long, a committee called "Maiba Road Development Committee" was constituted to see into the construction works, LS Thole recalled, while informing that the work commenced from November 15, 2021 and continued till December 14, 2021 and has now completed a temporary motorable road connecting the village from Koide village.
Urging the state government to look into the hardships faced by the villagers, he exhorted authority concerned to take up road connectivity programme in the village at the earliest.
Covid vaccination drive in the village was also delayed due to road connectivity issues, he said, while urging the villagers to protect the catchment areas and preserve forest to get sufficient water and appealed not to waste water.
Elders of the village lauded the donors and whoever had rendered their tireless services towards ensuring success the mission.
