Imphal, September 29 2022:
Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta has called for putting an end to all unwanted conflicts among different student bodies over the conduct of students' union elections for the academic session 2022-23 and instead focus on learning.
Addressing a press meet held at his office on Thursday morning, SP Shivakanta said that there have violent conflicts amongst student bodies/groups in the past few days with regard to the students' union elections.
There have been instances of a group of students grabbing the nomination form of another group, leading the latter detaining the former at Keishampat Thouda Bhabok Leikai and resulting in physical conflicts; conflicts between two student groups in Manipur College and also at AMSU office.
This has greatly disturbed the academic atmosphere of colleges, he remarked and as such, appealed to the students to strictly follow the election guidelines specified by the respective election committees of the colleges.
Further urging the students to follow the orders issued by the government for peaceful college elections; the SP said that there are many Class XII-passed students whose college admission processes are yet to be completed.
The mentality of these new students should not be affected by the conflicts, he stressed and called upon student bodies/unions and student leaders of colleges to follow the orders issued by the government from time to time and move towards the proper and right direction.
