Imphal, November 22 2022:
Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh has appealed to the government to allow trading of all permissible goods from both sides of the Indo-Myanmar border, so that the hardships of the people of Moreh could be addressed.
In a joint release, HTC Moreh president Victor Limthang and general secretary Mangminlien Singson stated that the impact of Covid-19 pandemic during the year 2020-21 and the subsequent political turmoil in neighbouring Myanmar have harshly affected the economic condition of the people living in the border town and its surrounding areas.
Moreh, being an international border town, faces certain strictures and restrictions both from the central and the state governments from time to time according to situations.
Such restrictions, however, crippled the economic activities of the majority populace whose means of earning of livelihood largely depends on cross-border trade between Moreh and Tamu, as it is not possible to survive on agriculture alone, the release pointed out.
HTC lamented that people who matter be it government officers or public leaders have failed to see this reality.
Fortunately, 5 and 20 Assam Rifles specifically have been understanding and kind enough to make concessions so that the people do not starve.
For this, HTC Moreh appreciates the humanitarian gesture of the AR, it further conveyed.
