Imphal, May 22 2022:
The Manipur chapter of International Human Rights Association (IHRA) has strongly condemned the summon order served to its president Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip, and demanded revocation of all FIRs filed against him.
In a statement, IHRA informed that it is an organisation that has been actively working for the welfare of all the people of the state, regardless of community origin, especially on human rights related issues and most importantly to ensure societal peace and harmony.
It also claimed that it has no bias in advocating for human rights, human integrity and social equality for all.
The statement further said that the charge levelled against its president is unfounded and termed it as a deliberate and sinister design to defame and discredit the human rights activist for his notable contributions.
It also accused the government of showing biasness towards the activist.
IHRA also condemned the assault on the supporters, who gathered in front of Churachandpur Police Station as a protest against summoning the activist.
While the people have every right to a peaceful protest against injustice, the use of force and intimidation, amounting to serious physical and mental torture of the people, is unacceptable, IHRA said, while demanding the government to immediately withdraw the summon order and revoke all FIRs registered against its president Mark Thangmang Haokip while cautioning of resorting to mass protest in case of failing to do so.
