Imphal, October 13 2021:
Family of the deceased BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda's escort party member A Bimolchandra Sharma has demanded replacement of the Investigating Officer (IO) and initiation of appropriate action against the IO concerned for trying to close the case abruptly by contending that Bimolchandra died during exchange of fire between escort personnel of A Sharda.
There was no exchange of fire between escort personnel of Sharda and it was very unfortunate that some local dailies reported the same, Bimolchandra's younger brother Arun Sharma told media persons during at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday.
The IO of the case tried to close the case hurriedly by concluding that his brother (Bimolchandra) died during accidental firing when Bimolchandra and escort colleague Thonginthang Baite had a scuffle over the service rifle at Sharda's residence, Arun said, and demanded immediate replacement of the IO concerned of the case and initiating action against the IO.
Follow up reports of the incident carried by local dailies clearly said that Thonginthang Baite fired the shot that killed Bimolchandra.
When family members went to Porompat PS and enquired about the incident on the same day of the incident, police informed that no statements could be collected as all escort personnel were in inebriated condition.
However, the IO mentioned in the report submitted to the court that only Bimolchandra and Thonginthang Baite were drunk on that day and this indeed has raised a big question, Arun said.
While stating that it was a gross mistake on the part of IO concerned to leak details of the incident to the media without completing investigation and submission of charge sheet to relevant court, Arun said that the IO concerned should be suspended for misleading the court and relevant FIR under CrPC should be lodged against the IO.
While claiming that the incident that occurred at A Sharda's residence was not accidental and there might be some other people involved in the incident, Arun opined that purported bid to close the case by the 10 was an attempt to save other involved escort personnel of the BJP state chief.
