AR evacuates 10K plus, saves two

Jwalamukhi Bat-talion of Assam Rifles evacuated around 10,500 stranded people from both ends of the National Highway 2, who were left stranded following the May 3 violence.
Sources said that the evacuation of stranded people began from May 4 onwards and around 10,500 people were evacuated till Fri-day.
Further evacuation and rescue operation will continue to facilitate safe passage to the stranded people, they added.
Meanwhile, Maram Battalion Assam Rifles rescued two Meeteis from Kuki dominated Moron village on Sat-urday.
Both the individuals are around 75 years old with one of them com-pletely deaf and partially blind as well.
These in-dividuals went to Mo-ron village for cutting of wood before the riots struck the state.
Since then they have been in hiding in the jungle due to fear of life.
On Saturday, Maram Battalion received in-formation of them hid-ing in the jungle, and immediately launched a column for rescue of these individuals to Pukhao Terapur village, informed a statement of Assam Rifles.
The lives of innocent people have been devas-tated due to the ongoing Kuki-Meetei violence.
In order to bring normal-cy and to negate further violence in the region, security forces and civ-il administration are working in close coor-dination with each other, the statement added.
