Prizes for Kala Utsav competition distributed

Samagra Shiksha (Secondary) Manipur on Friday organised a prize distribution function for the winners of the State Level Kala Utsav, 2022-23 Competition at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, DMU campus, here.
The students competed in 10 categories, divided into two groups for boys and girls.
The categories included Visual Arts Three Dimensional; Visual Arts Two Dimensional; Instrumental Music Percussive; Instrumental Music Melody; Vocal Music Traditional Folk; Classical Dance; Drama Solo Acting; Vocal Music Traditional Folk; Indigenous Toy & Games and Vocal Music Classical.
Altogether, 120 applicants from different schools of the state'participated in the competition, leaving 82 participants at the State Level.
Prizes, cash awards and certificates were handed over to the top three winners in each category for both boys and girls by Education(S) commissioner H Gyan Prakash.
The top 20 students will be representing the state at the National-level Kala Utsav scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha next year.
In his speech as the chief guest, commissioner H Gyan Prakash said that education is not only about reading books but trying to learn all aspects of the society and the environment we live in.
Students must cultivate and hone their creativity, especially with regard to art and culture.
Thus, Kala Utsav is being organised with the objective of cultivating other inherent talents of students aside from books, he stated.
Presiding over the function, Education(S) Samagra Shiksha, Manipur state project director (SPD) L Nanda-kumar Singh recounted that 'Kala Utsav' was first organised in 2015 with the aim of teaching students particularly those at higher secondary level about art and culture.
He further exhorted students who will be representing the state at the national level to bring glory to the state, while further appreciating Lairenmayum Naobi, who won the second position in last year's National-Level Kala Utsav in Toys & Game category.

Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE) under Rashtriya Mad-hyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, to promote art and culture in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of schools students at the secondary stage in the country.
