Imphal, May 31 2023:
People of the state had high expectation for restoration of peace with the visit of union home minister Amit Shah but all those hopes have been dashed as the yearning for peace is yet to fructify, said Meira Paibi members of Palace Compound, Mahabali Kabui Khul and sur-rounding areas.
Meira Paibi organisations of Palace compound, Mahabali Ka-bui Khul and surrounding areas organised a sit-in protest at Pal-ace Gate, here on Wednesday de-manding NRC update, withdrawal of the So0 agreement with Kuki militants, and protection of the state's territorial integrity.
People of different communities like Meetei, Meitei Pangal, Kabui and non-locals participated in the protest.
Interacting with the media, one Yumnam lbeyaima said that they believed visit of Amit Shah would end the crisis and ten-sion gripping the state but to no avail as there is no respite in the violence.
Maintaining that those who laid down their lives in the ongoing conflict did not make the sacrifice for the sake of compensation, she reasoned that there is no need for Rs 10 lakh and government job when the state is burnt and bifurcated.
While observing that future of the Meetei community is not secured in view of the persistent attacks by well-armed Kuki mil-itants, Ibeyaima pointed out that Meira Paibi members across the state are carrying out demon-stration demanding justice and as such no amount of compensation would suffice if justice and integrity of the state cannot be ensured.
She also urged the 50 MLAs of the state to take their stand and save the state.
Mahabali Kabui Khul Mou Phal secretary Khangem Golmei ap-pealed to the government to take up strict measures to control the violence, restore peace and uphold the territorial integrity of the state.
She further said that Kabui community is not involved in the present crisis but many people of the community feel insecure while commuting.
While stressing that the pro-testers should exercise maximum restraint and act with maturity in-spite of the high tension grip-ing the state, she also called for collective efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
