Imphal, March 31 2023:
As a part of National TB Elimination Programme taken up for elimination of TB from the country by 2025, a patient support project for Imphal East and Imphal West to be taken up by Ehool Foundation under the sponsorship of State Health Society Manipur was launched on Friday.
The launch programme held at the training hall of Ehool Foundation situated on the second floor of United Gym building near Lamphel DC office was attended by State TB officer Dr Waikhom Sashi, DTO, Imphal West Dr Sanjoy Lourembam, DTO, Imphal East Rk Ranjan, CMO, Imphal West Dr Joykumar and MACS former joint director Dr Mongjam Abhiram as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, State TB officer Dr Sashi informed that medication for TB is done after proper diagnosis of patients as it is risky if done beyond the system.
There is also the need to check whether TB patients are taking medicines timely or not as some patients stop medication after sometime due to some uneasiness in their health.
Such act causes drug resistance on TB patients, he cautioned.
Stressing the need to check whether TB patients are drug resistant or drug sensitive, Dr Sashi said that giving medication to such drug resistant patients might not be useful.
As such, he urged the people for supporting the government in its initiative of eradicating TB by 2025 .
