Imphal, July 23 2019:
Construction of tunnel for the Jiribam-Imphal railway line has been ceased for over six months on account of non-release of funds.
Altogether eight companies are engaged in construction of tunnels along Tupul-Imphal sections of the railway line but they have ceased all their works since around six months back as the North East Frontier Railway has not been releasing any fund, sources informed.
The companies engaged in the tunnel construction work are Shusi, ECI, Nayak, BIPL, Senbo, HCC-CPL, BCCL and ABCL.
When the companies approached NEFR to release necessary funds, NEFR maintained that no fund was available.
Even then, the companies somehow carried on the tunnel construction work for three months.
But they eventually suspended all their works since April as they could no longer meet daily expenditures and other financial requirements, said the sources.
The sources further expressed strong reservation over the Central Government's target of completing the railway project by 2022 as the tunnel construction work has ceased for over six months on account of non- release of fund.
