AR rescues bear cubs, plants trees

Chandel Battalion of IGAR (South) rescued two bear cubs from a forest near Larong Khunou village in Chandel district on Saturday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), during routine area patrolling conducted near Larong Khunou village the Assam Rifles troops spotted two suspicious individuals who escaped on observing the troops approaching and left two rucksacks at the site.
On checking the bags, two bear cubs were found.
The matter was immediately reported to officials of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and both the cubs have been handed over to an NGO named People for Animals, Imphal for further action, the release added.
On the other-hand, Mantripukhri Battalion of IGAR (South) organised tree plantation drive in Imphal West district on Sunday towards promoting the 'Go Green Initiative'.
The tree plantation drive was conducted with an aim to control the global warming, make environment pollution free and spread awareness on importance of clean environment, the PRO said in another release, adding that as part of initiative, saplings were planted by the troops of Assam Rifles and they were also educated about the importance of trees in maintaining the ecological balance.
