Imphal, December 08 2021:
Thangthatling Sinate, who is preparing to contest from Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022, raised concern over the recent withdrawal of COB Parbung, 36 Assam Rifles under 27 Sector/IGAR (S) and petitioned the Union Home Minister, Union Defence Minister, Chief Minister of Manipur, GOC-in-C of Eastern Command, GOC-in-C of Spear/III Corps, IGAR (S), DIG 27 Sector and Co/36 Assam Rifles on December 5 for immediate intervention so as to redeploy COB Parbung, 36 Assam Rifles.
In a press release issued by his media & publicity cell, Thangthatling pointed out the risks involved without the presence of Indian Army/Para-military/Security Forces in Pherzawl district.
She recalled that the presence of security forces is a must in the area as the trauma of the infamous incident wherein 25 tribal women in Lungthulien village, near Parbung, were raped and tortured in January 2006 still remains afresh in the minds of the people.
While lauding the Assam Rifles', she noted the crucial role played by the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and tranquillity in Parbung and its surrounding villages, acknowledging that the Assam Rifles deserves to get due recognition for their enormous contributions for the welfare and development of Pherzawl district.
Thangthatlin then said that they (AR) lived up to their motto, "Friends of the Hill People" and appreciated the Assam Rifles for winning the hearts of the people.
The representative of Mahila Morcha, BJP Churachand-pur & Pherzawl districts also called on Col Shakti Singh Sonu, Commandant, 36 Assam Rifles on December 6 at his headquarters in Lamka on the same matter and the Commandant had given his assurance that the withdrawal of COB Parbung, 36 Assam Rifles is purely a temporary measure and that they will be back very soon.
The Commandant explained that due to tactical reasons, such type of withdrawal and deployment are done as per improvement in law and order situation of the areas as decided by the top level.
He also assured that Pherzawl district still remains under their operational area and there is nothing to fear as it is monitored by the nearest COB, the release said.
Reposing her faith and confidence in Security Forces, Thangthatling appealed to the public to maintain calm and not to be apprehensive about the future, it added.
