Imphal, September 01 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary P Saratchandra has cautioned of taking legal action against 2/26 Heingang Booth Level Committee president Yumnam Nando, if the latter fails to provide evidence supporting the defamatory statement against him within September 10 .
Addressing a press meet held at his residence on Wednesday morning, P Saratchandra recounted that he put forward three conditions to the CM, while pledging to reveal the names of BJP workers involved in corrupt practices during recruitment of government jobs, provided the CM accepts the conditions mentioned.
However, in response to this, the Booth Level Committee led by Yumnam Nando levelled a slew of charges against him (Saratchandra) in the media, including allegations of serving jail time in Guwahati for cannabis trafficking and extorting money from students of EK Higher Secondary School in the name of supplying school uniforms.
Demanding Nando to provide evidences/proof supporting his defamatory claims by September 10, the general secretary cautioned of taking legal action against the Committee president in case of failing to do so.
Clarifying that he has never been in jail in his entire lifetime, Saratchandra equated the allegations to murdering him (Saratchandra) while being alive.
"If Nando fails to provide the evidence, he must make a public apology to the people of Heingang and the state on September 11 .
If he fails to do so, I am fully prepared to file a legal action against him", Saratchandra contended.
The general secretary continued that the people of the constituency are well aware of the works he has undertaken in the constituency despite keeping a low profile after the pools.
Nando's statement of "sucking blood from the students" could be regarded as his (Nando) lack of understanding on what quality education is.
The CM did not give any response to the three conditions put forward by him (Saratchandra) and as such, he did not reveal the names of the BJP workers.
He then commented that HUCO and Heingang Development Committee are loved and respected by the people of Heingang.
It would be best if such clubs and organisations stay away from politics, he added.
